Connect to your timer from the internet

You have multiple options; search on-line for additional information if needed. 

Method 1: Cloud Token

OpenSprinkler includes a built-in cloud feature that allows the official app to communicate with your controller remotely without opening router ports.
  1. Find your Cloud Token:
    • Open your OpenSprinkler app or web interface while connected to your home Wi-Fi.
    • Go to Options > System Options (or Advanced).
    • Look for the Cloud Token or Remote Token. If it is blank, generate one or create a free account if prompted by your specific firmware version. Copy this token.
  2. Configure the App for Remote Access:
    • Disconnect your phone from your home Wi-Fi (switch to cellular data) to test.
    • Open the OpenSprinkler app.
    • Add a new controller or edit your existing one.
    • Instead of entering a local IP address (like 192.168.1.x), enter your Cloud Token into the designated remote/cloud field.
    • Enter your controller’s web password. You can now control your system from anywhere.

Method 2: Port Forwarding 

If you prefer a direct connection without relying on the cloud, you can map a port on your home router directly to your OpenSprinkler.
Step 1: Assign a Static IP to OpenSprinkler
Before forwarding a port, you must ensure your OpenSprinkler’s IP address never changes.
  1. Access your router’s admin panel (usually by typing 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 into a browser).
  2. Look for DHCP Reservation, Static IP Allocation, or IP Binding.
  3. Find your OpenSprinkler device in the list and lock its current IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.50).
Step 2: Set Up Port Forwarding on Your Router
  1. In your router’s admin panel, navigate to the Port Forwarding, Virtual Server, or NAT section.
  2. Create a new port forwarding rule with the following settings:
    • Service/Rule Name: OpenSprinkler
    • Protocol: TCP
    • Internal Port: 80 (The default port OpenSprinkler listens on)
    • External/Public Port: 8080 (Using a non-standard port like 8080 adds a small layer of security rather than exposing port 80 directly)
    • Internal/Device IP Address: The static IP you assigned to your OpenSprinkler in Step 1.
  3. Save and apply the changes.
Step 3: Connect Remotely
  1. Find your home’s current Public IP address by searching “What is my IP” on Google while on your home Wi-Fi.
  2. To connect from outside your home, open the OpenSprinkler app or a web browser and enter your public IP followed by the external port (e.g., http://your-public-ip:8080).
